Paramount+ has released a first-look at the upcoming UK original series The Crow Girl, which filmed on location in Bristol earlier this year with support from our Film Office team.
The six-part series is an adaptation from Erik Axl Sund’s international best-selling novel of the same name, and is described as “a nail-biting, twisted and contemporary psychological thriller”. It is produced by Emmy-winning creative team Buccaneer (Irvine Welsh’s Crime, Marcella) and stars Eve Myles, Katherine Kelly, Dougray Scott and Elliot Edusah. (Guns N’ Roses guitar legend Slash, who is an Exeutive Producer on the series and also contributing to the soundtrack, took time out to visit the show’s Police HQ set at a Bristol location earlier this year.)
When the bodies of unidentified young men start to show up around the city, beaten and full of the anaesthetic lidocaine, DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles) and partner DI Lou Stanley (Dougray Scott) are on the hunt for the killer. With a lack of evidence and pressure to solve the case mounting, Jeanette enlists the help of prime suspect Carl Lowry’s psychotherapist Dr Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly) who offers a fresh but troubling perspective on the case. But with the killer inching ever closer to home, Jeanette and the team are in a race against time to untangle the web of secrets to solve this mystery.
In the first images shared from the series, we see Eve Myles (Hijack, We Hunt Together, Keeping Faith) in action as lead investigator DCI Jeanette Kilburn, alongside her longtime partner and former mentor DI Lou Stanley played by Dougray Scott (Irvine Welsh’s Crime, Vigil), as they head deep into the investigation on the hunt for the elusive killer.
Katherine Kelly (Mr Bates vs the Post Office, Liar, Inside No.9) is the sophisticated and poised Dr Sophia Craven, a psychotherapist whose psychological assessment of suspect Carl Lowry, brings her into the realm of DCI Jeanette Kilburn’s investigation.
DI Lou Stanley is shadowed by diligent rookie DC Mike Dilliston played by Elliot Edusah (Django, 1917, Pirates) as Lou takes Mike under his wing during his first murder investigation.
Rounding out the cast is Clara Rugaard (I am Mother, Press Play, The Rising) as Victoria Burkeman, Victoria Hamilton (COBRA, The Crown, Life) as Superintendent Verity Pound and Chloé Sweetlove (My Husband’s Double Life, Tutankhamun, Our Fathers) plays Madeleine.
Milly Thomas created the series for screen, writing four episodes as well as executive producing, with Charles Martin and Rebecca Rycroft both serving as directors. Tony Wood and Richard Tulk Hart are executive producers for Buccaneer and Andy Mosse is the producer for the series. It is produced in association with and distributed by ITV Studios.
The Crow Girl will debut on Paramount+ in the UK early next year.
