Redcliffe Caves

Redcliffe Caves path with lights in the distance

A unique series of manmade tunnels originally dug to provide sand for glassmaking and pottery production, Redcliffe Caves offer a large, well-maintained underground network of spaces which are stable and suitable for filming.

Popular due to their dark and atmospheric look, the Caves have doubled for flooded Cornish tin mines in BBC drama Poldark and inhospitable Mars territory in Doctor Who episode Empress of Mars. Also filmed there were Netflix sci-fi series The Last Bus, Doctor Who spin-off Class, long running dramas Skins (Channel 4) and Casualty (BBC), and BBC dramas Atlantis and Being Human.
