Redcliffe Caves

Redcliffe Caves are a series of man made tunnels dug to provide sand for glass making and pottery production. They are a large, well maintained network of caves which are stable and suitable for filming.

Popular with productions due to their dark and atmospheric look, the Caves have set the scene for a number of dramas, for example doubling as Cornish tin mines in BBC drama Poldark (2015-19) and the inhospitable territory of Mars in the 2017 Doctor Who episode ‘Empress of Mars’.

Other credits filmed in the Caves include Netflix sci-fi children’s series The Last Bus (2022), Doctor Who spin-off Class (2016), long running dramas Skins (Channel 4) and Casualty (BBC), BBC drama Atlantis (2013-15) and Being Human (2008-13).
