Bristol’s historic harbour has been dramatically developed since its time of a major trade port of England. Restaurants, stylish flats and arts spaces now line the water. However, there are sections of the harbourside that still retain a historic look.
Phoenix Wharf, with its cobbled street and redstone walls has been dressed as Boston in the 1700’s. Princes Wharf with M Shed Museum, Bristol’s vintage Harbour Steam Railway and historic operational cargo cranes has doubled for the wartime harbours of Guernsey and Jersey.
Several historic ships and vessels are moored here, a number of which have hosted filming. The Matthew of Bristol, a replica of the 14th Century ship that John Cabot sailed to the Americas, has hosted Disney’s Galavant series and Kaskelot has featured in the series Poldark. The 1940’s MV Balmoral and Tall Ship Kaskelot are also popular choices with productions.
